Valley View's Parish Nurse
The responsibility of the Parish Nurse is to provide resources for the congregation, set up health education classes, and encourage all to maintain a healthy mind, body and soul.
This is the 12th year of the Parish Nurse program (under Congregational Care Committee) with full support from the Valley View staff and congregation. A nurse on the church staff, as a representative of the health sciences, is a visible symbol of the close tie between one's faith and health. Valley View once again received recognition from United Methodist Health Ministries for having a healthy congregation.
The Parish Nurse receives guidelines for Parish Nursing through the National Parish Nurse Association. The Parish Nurse must be a registered professional nurse with a current license and two years of nursing experience. The Parish Nurse is an active participant in continuing education programs related to the parish nurse responsibilities. Our current parish nurse retired from 26 years of orthopedic nursing at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. She is a member of the KC Chapter of Parish Nursing and is also a member and serves on the board of the Health Ministry Association.
