Bible Study Opportunities
Tuesdays at 10:00 am - Noon and 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Christian Believer focuses on classical teachings of the Christian faith—presenting, explaining, and interpreting them in a way that participants can understand, through the use of words, symbols, and hymns. Over a 30-week period, participants will examine the writings of ancient and modern theologians and view video presentations by leading Bible scholars. The study manual guides daily reading in Scripture and in the Book of Readings. Each lesson includes an explanation and commentary on a specific doctrine, raises questions for the reader, allows for reflection and written response, and suggests ideas for additional reading and study.

Calvin vs Wesley: There are so many theological ideas churning in our society that few of us are consistent in our beliefs. This “theology de jour" leaves us confused in thought and action. The beliefs of John Calvin permeate pop theology with an emphasis on “the elect” andthe "sovereign will of God.”So much Calvinism saturates our air that we sometimes use catch phrases and concepts that don’t accurately reflect what we are really thinking. This study is not intended to put downCalvin, but to point outsignificant differences betweenCalvinand Wesley. Eachwrote about major tenets of the church: who God is and what God's will is for us; the place of Scripture; the atonement of Christ; the role of human responsibility; the work of God’s grace, the relation of the church and world;and how these beliefscan connect to how people practice their faith. But Calvin and Wesley were different, and following their prescriptions will lead us down different paths.

Tuesday Morning Prayer Group
We pray each Tuesday Morning at 9:00 AM in the Parlor (NW corner of the building). The time begins with scripture and a short meditation, then the group prays for the concerns of the world and community as well as all of the names on the Valley View UMC prayer list.
We have interesting books to read and discuss and have a lot of fun attending book signings or just visiting with each other. We meet the 4th Wednesday evening of the month (August through June) at 7:00 p.m. in room 12. We welcome new members and would love to meet you this August 22 at 7:00 pm. The book for August is “The Whistler” by John Grisham. If you have questions or need a ride, call Ginny Miller, 913-492-4639 or Nancy Meeks, 913-387-4032.
Valley View Quilters

We are a group of women who meet weekly throughout the year at Valley View and quilt together. We make a new quilt each year to be shared through our Opportunity Project, which through donations, is given away. The money we receive for this is donated back to Valley View for a timely project need. Join us on Mondays at 1:00 PM in room 50/51.
